First - it is a shout of victory. Jesus won, Satan lost. The word in particular that Jesus used means "complete, perfect completion, fulfillment, complete satisfaction" It means your debt is "PAID IN FULL" ... like the stamp across a bill. You cannot give anymore money or do anything. Luke 12:49-53 and John 4:34, 17:4 - He knew His mission was to do the will of His Father and He had to complete it ... 1. Jesus' doing of the work the Father had given Him examples his obedience 2. Work was done. Mission accomplished "The seeking and saving of the lost" 3. Shows his control over the timing of his death and over his actually dying 4. His sufferings as the man of sorrows were at an end 5. The righteous demands of the law had now been perfectly met 6. The sacrificial system which pointed and anticipated the once for all sacrifice of Christ was rendered obsolete. 7. All that was needed to be done to effect a persons salvation had been done.
