1 | Is war biblical? | John 18:36 | Churon | 153149 | ||
As I said before not everything that god commanded in the OT is still a guideline of what to do today. maybe you could just give one example of a just-war and I'm pretty sure I can contradict that. The thing is that there is simply no passage in the NT that I've found yet that deals with wars. Besides that there are plenty of scritptures in the NT that proclaim peace. Starting with Jesus being called the prince of peace going to his actions (healing a wounded soldier's ear who arrested him, his suffering without a sign of defense and so on. He never ever used force to punish any sinner. Isn't there a reason for the "what would Jesus do" idea?) |

What would Jesus do? He'd do exactly what He asks us to do (or not do). Your answer lies in Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:6 “You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT ALARMED, because these things MUST take place, but the end is not yet. So, according to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ’s declaration war IS God ordained. It IS necessary and we are not to protest against HIS WILL 1. The Greek word for Alarmed: to cry aloud, make a noise by outcry a. in the NT, to trouble, frighten b. to be troubled in mind, to be frightened 2. The Greek word of Must: it is necessary, there is need of, it behooves, is right and proper a. necessity lying in the nature of the case b. necessity brought on by circumstances or by the conduct of others toward us. c. necessity in reference to what is required to attain some end d. a necessity of law and command, of duty, equity e. necessity established by the counsel and decree of God, especially by that purpose of his which relates to the salvation of men by the intervention of Christ and which is disclosed in the Old Testament prophecies 1. concerning what Christ was destined finally to undergo, his sufferings, death, resurrection, ascension Or, in the words of John the Baptist in Luke 3:14. John told soldiers who asked him what they must do in order to produce fruit consistent with repentance. “Don’t take money forcibly, and be content with your wages.” Notice he didn't demand they lay down their swords. In other words, for them to bear fruits of repentance they had to be honest, and content with their wages as they fought and did their God ordained jobs. T'oma |
