1 | Freeze-dried Salvation? | John 15:6 | JesusInMyHrt | 88517
Read Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.... Although we are Christians, we will never be perfect in this world. However, its not even a matter of discipline to live the word of God. When we grow into a personal relationship with Christ, we want to shine His Light. Yes, some thngs do require discipline at first, but later come from the heart. We live by the spirit which convicts us when we do wrong so that with the help of Our Lord, we can change those things in our lives that are unfavorable to God. Before I was saved, I had a horrible mouth, when I left the church that morning I was saved, the Lord took my foul mouth. I did not conciously stop cursing, the Lord delivered me from it amonst many other bad habits. In John 15, Jesus is talking about those that are not fruitful in their works. I don't believe that he means those branches will be cut off of eternal life, but be cut off the blessings that we receive now from God. If we don't have God, we are nothing and we will not prosper. Without the Lord in our hearts and lives, we would wither away. I believe what Jesus is saying to us here is that we being a part of the vine of Christ, cannot be fruitful without him. I don't believe this scripture is talking about salvation, but about our growth as Christians. Salvation is a gift from God, has nothing to do with works. But, once we are saved and we grow in that salvation, we learn from the Word of God that we need to put Christ first in all that we do. When we do this our lives will prosper. When we rely on ourselves or man, that is when we wither from the vine. I do hope this helps you. God Bless your efforts to learn His Truths.......Barb |

2 | Freeze-dried Salvation? | John 15:6 | Aspiring Overseer | 88573
Barb, Your commentary brings to mind one of several cautions in scripture: Prov 14:12 12There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. NAS Ephesians 2:8-10tells us this: The gentiles, who previously had no hope, were offered salvation through faith in Christ. This was the master plan of God and could not have been brought about through anything they had done. Christians are God's workmanship, created for good works, which God commands they perform. Assuming John 15 is talking about the spiritual growth of Christians, as you suggest, would God not be unfair to cast off and burn the slow learners? Those people were "in Christ" (Gal3:27), they were part of the vine or body of believers, but....they did not bear fruit (i.e. they did not work, put forth effort, preach the word, produce fruit that SHOULD REMAIN (John 15:16), not just good deeds. Scripture tells us that obedience is mandatory; that we are to prove God's will; to work out our salvation; bear fruit for God; understand God's commandments; be of one mind...the list is long. Are you willing to put forth the effort? AO |

AO, I believe you have misunderstood, and you really should have given that comment a little more thought before posting. How do you know how much effort I put into my relationship with the Lord? Is that not a judgemental comment? I believe that when we are saved, we are saved and I'm not saying that we do not have to obey the word of God. We are saved by Grace. If we are living the word, we are producing good fruit. What I meant by discipline is that when we have a relationship with the Lord, we WANT to do what is right in the eyes of God and therefore it is not an effort. If we continually look at living God's word as an effort and something that we are told to do, but don't want to do, where is our love for the Lord? When most people are saved, they don't know how to live the word. God guides us through his words in the bible. This does not happen overnight. We can do nothing without God and that I believe was his point in John 15. Living in the Light of Christ is a Fruit that will Remain. Actions speak louder than a thousand words. I may not have a gift to preach God's word, but my life shows his word in everything I do. I stand by my statement and my beliefs. We will never be perfect in this world and there will always be disagreements in beliefs. But the bottomline is, we are not here to please each other, but to please God...Love In Christ.....Barb
