1 | Why does Psalm 82:6 say we are gods? | John 10:34 | Songbirdca | 75348
It still doesn't make sense to me. I know that I'm a child of God, but that doesn't make me a god. I've just had two Mormons to my door and they insist we will one day be gods. Using all the verses you pointed out. How can that be?
2 | Why does Psalm 82:6 say we are gods? | John 10:34 | Emmaus | 75361
Songbird, I can assure you I am not a Mormon, nor do I share their interpretation. They believe God is a physical being like us who rules this planet and we can go on to do the same as gods over plantets of our own; if of course you become a Mormon. I think Inmyheart has given a good reponse. We are called by God and His grace to be by God's grace what we are supposed to be: sons of God, living Godly lives as Adam was created to but failed. Jesus the new Adam by His obedience restore our relationship with our Father. In fact we are called to divine sonship, sharing in His Divine nature: 2 Peter 1:3-4. Emmaus |

3 | Living (g)Godly lives? | John 10:34 | Ray | 127537
Hi Emmaus, Songbirdca mentioned being humble and being godly. You mention living Godly lives. What is the best interpretation of this word? The divine power and the divine nature of 2 Peter 3-4 has been discussed in the forum. From the heart, Ray |

6 | Living (g)Godly lives? | John 10:34 | Emmaus | 127551
Ray, In that case the best definition would be in the Beatitudes of the Sermon the Mount in Matthew and Jesus would be the prime example. Emmaus |

7 | Living (g)Godly lives? | John 10:34 | Ray | 127555
Hi Emmaus, Jesus lived the life of God. But the point of the thread is that the best we can do is live godly lives. The only "godly" occurances in the NASB concordance that I would capitalize as talking about Deity are the ones found in 2 Corinthians. 1) 2 Cor 1:12, NKJ, "For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God..." 1 Cor 1:12, NASB, "...that in holiness and godly sincerity,..." My interpretation for what is worth: "that in simplicity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world..." 2) 2 Cor 7:9, NKJ, "Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner,..." 2 Cor 7:9, NASB, "...for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God..." I go with the NASB here. 3) 2 Cor 7:10, NKJ, "For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation,..." 2 Cor 7:10, NASB, "For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death." I go with the NASB here. 4) 2 Cor 7:11, NKJ, "For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner:..." 2 Cor 7:11, NASB, "For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you:..." I go with the marginal note in the NASB Study Bible, rendering it thus: "For behold what earnestness this very thing, this sorrow according to God has produced in you." 5) 2 Cor 11:2, NKJ, "For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Cor 11:2, NASB, is basically the same. My interpretive rendering for what it is worth: "For I am zealous for you with the zeal of God; for I have betrothed you to one husband, that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin." I hope this helps. From the heart, Ray |
