1 | Would you consider Hebrews 12:14? | John 10:34 | Ray | 127608
Hi Stultis..., We want to know the Lord, so I am hoping that your quote of Hebrews 12:14 is a typo when you speak of seeing the "lord". One of the verses that I compare with Hebrews 12:14 is John 1:18. "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." The Jehovah's Witness would interpret the only begotten God, as "the only begotten god". In that interpretation they come short of the grace of God that Hebrews 12:15 speaks of. John 1:17 says that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ and that grace is seen in the only begotten God. So the Jews were wrong when in John 10:36 they said "You are blaspheming". Applying this to ourselves, we should know that this Son of God was the One who was explaining Him. As far as Hebrews 12 is concerned. Who do you regard as the Father of our spirits? Verse 9. Who is this One who disciplines us for our good, that we might share in His holiness and gain the sanctification or holiness with which we will see the Lord? From the heart, Ray |

2 | Would you consider Hebrews 12:14? | John 10:34 | Country Girl | 127728
If I may interject, it seems obvious Who is the primary active Agent in verse 9 as quoted below. The same Person is primary in verses 10 and 11. Heb 12:9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? Heb 12:10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. Heb 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. So what are we to conclude from this discussion? Everyone knows we humans certainly aren't Gods or gods either one. So apparently Jesus once again was speaking to His "testers," his biggest political enemies while here on earth, the Scribes and Pharisees. So many of the discussions and statements from Jesus to these people were often filled with difficult concepts and quotes from the OT. It's obvious Jesus' main priority was to humble their thinking and their attitude to Himself and His Father. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

3 | Would you consider Hebrews 12:14? | John 10:34 | Ray | 127776
Hi Country Girl, Thank you for answering the question, for I was busy yesterday, spending six hours in a hospital emergency room. I hope to think clearly enough and strong enough to answer your post. I like your conclusion of "It's obvious Jesus' main priority was to humble their thinking and their attitude to Himself and His Father." I of course like your capitalization. :)) A look at Hebrews 12:7 will see the words of "his father". I would like to talk about that verse. I see the verse as talking about God dealing with us as sons and that the Father will discipline us since we are His sons. My rendering for Hebrews 12:7 using capitalization as "interpretation": "It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his *Father does not disciple." It isn't until verse nine that earthly fathers are spoken of, thus verse 7 was talking about God the Father. I compare/contrast Hebrews 12:7 with 2 Corinthians 6:18, "And I will be a *Father [see NKJ] to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to (Me), Says the Lord Almighty." 1 Chronicles 28:6, "...for I/ have chosen him to be a son to Me, and I will be a (Father) to him." Compare/contrast Hebrews 12:6, "...every son whom He/ receives. 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his *Father does not disciple? 8 But if you are without discipline of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitamate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the (Father) of spirits, and live?" Colossians 3:18, "And whatever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him/ to God the *Father." Ephesians 4:5, "one Lord/ one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and *Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of (Christ's) gift." Revelation 21:7, "He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and (I) will be his God and he will be My son." Slashes and parentheses are mine for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |
