1 | do you have eternal or temporal life? | John 10:28 | disciplerami | 72365
Greetings, Why can I not possess something and then lose it? The eternal life is yours conditional to your continued walk with God. Remove your hands from the plow and you are not fit for the kingdom of heaven (Luke 9:62) God bless |

2 | do you have eternal or temporal life? | John 10:28 | David_24597 | 72368
I would agree with that. If a person becomes saved and then refuses to "follow on to know the Lord" (Hos. 6:3) he CAN loose his salvation. Hos. 4:6 also states that the saved (God's people) can be destroyed because they reject the knowledge given to them. Even Heb. 6:4-6 (especially verse 6) shows that Jesus CANNOT be crucified a second time. Once the first time has been accomplished (accepted) a second repentance is impossible. Now I know that a righteous man falls many times (Prov. 24:16) yet gets back up again. This text in Heb. 6 (also Heb. 10:26-27) would then indicate a falling away and a REFUSAL to repent from it. |

3 | do you have eternal or temporal life? | John 10:28 | disciplerami | 72375
Right, Hebrews 6 is speaking of those who have been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift and the word of God, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and more. There's not much doubt that these people were 'once' Christians. But their present conduct puts them in the realm of 'fallen away.' It is impossible for them to be saved unless they repent. The John 10:28 passage indicates that your salvation is not in the hands of others. It does not say whether you can remove yourself from the grace of God. Sheep most certainly can stray from the Shepherd. |

To understand Hebrews 6:1-6 you have to back up to Hebrews 5:12-14. The writer says here that Christians who need to be reminded of the first principles of the oracles of God are imuture babies and still need milk because they are UNSKILLED IN THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. According to Romans 10:1-4 a person can have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. According to v.3 you can be IGNORANT OF GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS and be seeking your own. Our righteousness is like filthy rags. You need to submit to God's righteousness which is clearly a gift. Romans 9:30-33 says that the Gentiles obtained righeousness simply by faith but religous people miss it. To the religeous mind Jesus is a stumbling Stone, a Rock of offense. Don't stump your tow. The writer of Hebrews is saying in v.6:1-6 you have laid the foundation now MOVE ON TO MUTURITY. REPENT FROM DEAD WORKS. Dead works is your striving to obtain your own righteousness. Submit to God's righteousness by faith. You have already laid the foundation now move on to muturity. |
