1 | Memories? | Luke 9:62 | Cyclist | 110257 | ||
Hi Forum Family! Blessed be the Lord our God! He is worhthy of all praise and glory and honor! Blessed be the one who created all things in heaven and on earth and in the seas and all that there is therein, things not made by men's hands, but by the Lord! Praise be to the Lord! Wanted to post a question about Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." I conducted a search on the forum and found that there was a little discussion on this verse but I had a few more questions about it. So, please bear with me. Question 1) How does this particular verse relate to memories, both bad (those in which we learned from) and good (those which bring joy to our hearts)? Question 2) Paul writes: Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. There are many memories that I have which include all of the above, so, Isn't it good to dwell on such things? Here is the passage in context: Luke 9:59 And He said to another, "Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father." Luke 9:60 But He said to him, "Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God." Luke 9:61 Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home." Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." Always your brother in prayer and in praise, Cyclist I will bless the Lord at al times! His prasie shall continually be in my mouth! |

Greetings! So glad to see you posting again! I believe that memories are good. In fact, they become stronger with frequent use! When we recall all the good things of the Lord, we praise Him; when we remember our failings and His grace and mercy, we praise Him! BUT, I don't think that this particular passage is related to remembering. It seems to me to be reflective of a divided heart. No one can serve two masters! See Gen 19:26. Blessings to you and yours! t |

Hi Mommapbs, I like to see those words of praise from Cyclist, also. I regret that I can't think of any verses to refer him to for remembering or memories. I appreciate your Genesis 19:26 passage for Lot's wife "looking back". In Luke 9 and in Genesis I see a lot of "buts". Luke 9:59, But he said, "Permit me first to..."60 "but first permit me to say goodbye to those at home." Genesis 19:26. "But his wife, from behind him, looked back; and she became a pillar of salt." I wonder if Lot's wife wanted to say goodbye to old friends instead of leaving the past behind her and forging on ahead. A look at Luke 17:32-37 will remind us also of Lot's wife and how one was taken and one was left. "Luke 17:33, "Whoever seeks to keep his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall preserve it." We have to leave our past behind us, and press on. Perhaps Luke 18:1 should be included in the passage in that we "ought to pray and not to lose heart." From the heart, Ray |
