1 | What is the relevance of OT practices? | Luke 4:8 | emmugambi | 137884 | ||
The Books of Moses are very detailed in their explanation of the procedures of worship and daily life. This was a way of life that God gave to His children if they were to live in His chosen way of life. I believe that God's will and law does not change with time, it is everlasting. How significant then are these procedures to us as christians? If not important, does this mean that the Israelites engaged in practices that were of no value religiously? |

Hi, Emmugambi! You are speaking of two economies... under the Old Covenant (Mosaic Laws) the people of Israel were given the Ten Commandments and several hundreds of statutes which they were to follow... many of these dealt with functions that were put away during the New Covenant (sacrificial offerings, tithing for the Temple and prists maintenance, tithing and offerings distributed to the Levi Tribe...); once the New Covenant direct and indirect changes took place... Considering the many laws present in the Mosaic Laws, we can almost understand why the people of Israel circumvented them as much and as often as they could: it seems that very few people had authoritative knowledge of all the regulations... Jesus simplified the demands of the Law: Love the Lord your God above all and your neighbor as your friend!--He said that this sums up the Law and the prophets (Matthew 22:37-40); the New Covenant depends upon God's grace and our humble obedience while the Old Covenant depended upon Israel following the letter of the Mosaic Law... The best analogy that I can offer is elementary math vs. quantum mechanics--while the basic principles of mathematical enumeration applies the values of the latter supersede the first: instead of paying and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, we love others as we would have them love us and we love and pray even for those who seek to harm us--both our restitution and justice are found in the Lord not in our immediate corporal beings! God Bless! Angel |
