1 | Who can stand before envy? | Luke 4:28 | EdB | 121050 | ||
Aixen7z4 While envy can be problem there has to be something to envious of. I think rather it is pride. Pride which is harder to recognize because we must do honest self evaluations. Many people feel others are envious of them when in fact they are letting their human side falsely bolster their pride. Often people hit conflict because they are in conflict with the truth. 2 Tim. 3:2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, PROUD, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (emphasis mine). Today we have many that want to analyze sin, compartmentalize sin and treat sin as an affliction rather what it is sin. People hated Jesus because they were in sin and Jesus was the Light that illuminated that sin. People hated Paul because they were in sin and Paul reflected the light of Christ Jesus that illuminated that sin. People reject Jesus today because once again he illuminates the sin in which they the find themselves. People hate those that call sin sin today because that truth illuminates their sin. Yes the Pharisees were afraid Jesus was going to draw people from them not because they were living a righteous life and Jesus was more popular. But because they were in sin and whenever Jesus came near their sin shined as a tell tale beacon. Paul was hated not because he was more popular but because the light he reflected into the world illuminated the sins of man. Man deals with sin by hiding it, thus his pride can be satisfied, however when sin is illuminated as sin, and the light of the truth illuminates the sin within them, it becomes of issue of disdain for man. When man is exposed to something he doesn’t like he lashes out at it. He seeks to destroy it, he blames others and seeks to justify his actions, his problems, his situation, his sin. It isn’t until man admits that he is in sin and needs a savior that his problems can be resolved. It is no mystery as many try to make it, it is clearly seen in the lives of many in the Old Testament, in the New Testament and today. It doesn’t have to be analyzed, poked or prodded it can be found in the fall in Garden. It can’t be dealt with, counseled away, explained, it has to be placed at base of the cross where the cleansing blood of our Savior will wash it away. When we try to assign our problems to human conditions, situations, or emotions we forget one very important thing. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, It is the same problem in all of us we are born in sin and need a Savior. EdB |
