1 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | jaden | 48055
Did Jesus suffer in hell while he was dead for three days? The pastor of my church said he did, but my mother's pastor said he did not. I have not yet found the verse my pastor used. If you even know which verse I'm referring to, please respond with it. Thank you.
2 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | The Berean | 48056
This is clearly a false doctrine. No where will you literally see "Jesus descended or went to hell" in the Bible. However there are some scriptures that can be twisted to make it seem as if he went. One common one I know of is 1 Peter 3:18-20. But let us go to the Cross. When one of the thieves defended Christ while he was on the cross himself he says in verse 41 of Luke chapter 23, "And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong. 42 And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 And Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, TODAY you will be with me in Paradise." Later on in verse 46 Jesus says, "Father, into YOUR HANDS I COMMIT my SPIRIT!" and he breathed his LAST BREATH. Now let us look at this. Christ told the theif that TODAY he will see him in paradise, not tomorrow, or the next day or after the 3rd day. Jesus also cries out to God, I commit my spirit into your hands. So Christ went immediately to be with the Father. No where does he say, Oh hold on theif I have to go to Hell first then we can fellowship in heaven after the 3rd day. Or even to the Father, I can't commit my Spirit to you God until after the 3rd day, hold on for a while please. If he did he would be disobedient...and we'd have big problem. Hope this helps. Yours in Christ.
3 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | inmyheart | 48117
The Berean, reading your post you state, "So Christ went immediatelty to be with the Father, etc..." Reading John 20:17, "Jesus saith unto her, "Touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father, and to my God, and your God." So help me here and give some understanding, also, lets say that Jesus may have descended to hell, how would He have been disobedient? Thank you for taking the time to respond. |

4 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | The Berean | 48500
Jesus had not ascended to Heaven in physical form. Remember his spirit left but his body remained. Remember Hell is a place of eternal damnation...no one returns. Christ paid for the penalty for sins once, not twice by going to Hell. He suffered at the Cross, not after the Cross. When he said it is 'finished' his suffering had ended. He continually told the apostles that he must suffer many things BEFORE his death and resurrection, not after. Read Luke 24:38 Jesus clearly says that a spirit does not have flesh and bones. So when Mary saw him it was his flesh, not his Spirit. I guess I should have been more detailed and said his spirit. If any one has other opinion or proofs I welcome them.
