1 | Luke 23:43 where is the thief? | Luke 23:43 | DocTrinsograce | 192999 | ||
Dear Jesusman, I concur, in general, with your exegesis of this passage. As we interpret texts, it is often helpful to remember who was speaking, who was being spoken to, what was happening, etc. Consequently, when I ask myself "What kind of answer would have meant the most to the thief at that particular moment in time?" To me, it rules out the likelihood of a purely figurative, theoretical, or theological response. There are lots of other reasons to arrive at the conclusion as you have stated it. Not the least of which, by the way, is that that is the traditional view by Christians thinkers for some two thousand years. In Him, Doc |

Exactly my point, Doc. As one of my college professors was noted for saying, "Context is King". Both Jesus and the Thief were dying in this moment of time. I dought seriously that Jesus was taking time out to give a parable or a philosophical discussion with multiple figurative meanings. Anyone who is at the moment of death will make sure that anything said will clear and straight to the point. Jesusman |
