ederd, Greetings my friend and welcome to the Forum! In asking this question,we should first look at Christ's example of forgiving His enemies as in Luke 23:34. I don't believe there is any "specific" scripture that defines unforgiveness as sin. Realize that unforgiveness is really a lack of faith,a hardness of heart, etc. We cannot set up a higher standard than God Himself has provided through Christ (Rom. 5:8). Christ was emphatic in the Sermon on the Mount in Matt.6:14-15 that forgiveness was required . However, now I believe that Romans 14:23 is our guide in that it addresses more than just unforgiveness: "...and whatever is not from faith is sin." Truly our walk should be consistent with our calling, and as such Christ implores us to forgive others (Eph. 4:32, Col. 2:13, 3:13). I believe the obvious answer is: Yes, unforgiveness is sin. As we seek to be obedient to Him, we should also follow His supreme example! Speaking The truuth In Love, BradK |

BradK, not only do I agree with you that an unforgiving spirit is a sinful spirit, but would like to point out the terrible burden unforgiveness imposes on the believer, and what an impediment it is to his effective witness. I mean, how is it possible to let one's light shine to the world when he is going around carrying a grudge against his neighbor and refuses to let go and let God heal his spirit. .... Furthermore, the unforgiving believer cannot pray the model prayer that Jesus taught, for it petitions God to forgive our debts as we have forgiven our debtors. Not only does unforgiveness shrivel one's spirit, but it also adversely affects his emotional and physical well-being, as any physician who has treated emotionally induced (psycho-somatic) illness can attest to. --Hank | ||||||
