1 | Prophetic overtones re Israel? | Luke 22:51 | Mommapbs | 47357 | ||
Romans 13:8 was a good reference to look at!"Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law." Thanks Ray! Did Jesus owe anything? Did Jesus ever not love? Seems to me that Peter incurred the debt in this situation! Yet Jesus paid that too! How wonderful is our Lord! Thanks for the input! Blessings! Mommapbs |

Hi Mommapbs, Romans 13:8 may be a good reference to look at but it has nothing to do with what you are talking about. Sorry about a typo here; I meant Romans 11:8 in reference to your initial post. Thanks for trying to make something meaningful out of my post but perhaps a better reply would have been--What???? I see a connection between Luke 22:51 and Romans 11:8 because of the word "ear," and I can reflect on how God is active in who hears the good news. Romans 11:8 says "God gave them a spirit of stupor; Eyes to see not and ears to hear not." Deuteronomy 29:4 says, "Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. Another reference here in our study bibles has Isaiah 29:13, "Then the Lord said, 'Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me,..." It is important to hear what God is saying. I think that a word study can be very productive when we reflect on it correctly. Jesus allowed that the man who had his ear taken off by the sword would at least have the possibilty of hearing the message. "But Jesus / answered and said, 'Let Me at least do this', And He touched his ear and healed him." Contrasting Matthew 26:52 and Revelation 13:9,10 introduces verses that have "ear" and "sword" in proximity. Matthew 26:51,52, "And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his *ear. Then Jesus said to him, 'Put your *sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.'" Revelation 13:9, "If anyone has an *ear, let him hear. If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the *sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints." If we are to have our names written in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain, then we will need God to give us ears to hear and even to heal the ears of the Jews so that they can be grafted back in again.
