Why did Christ instruct the Disciples to obtain swords (which they did in verse 38)? Earlier He had told them not to carry swords. Later that evening He would even intervene when Peter, the fisherman -- no swordsman he -- made an attack on one of the temple servants. Why do you think Christ went back and forth like this on the question of carrying weapons? | ||||||

Interesting question. Perhaps Jesus was speaking of another kind of sword. A sword of the spirt and they did not get it. So, "It is enough!" may have been His response in frustration or exasperation. Matt 10:34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Eph 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
