Hello child of god2, The Amplified gives sense of the meaning: "Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God], that he might sift [all of] you like grain, [Job 1:6-12; Amos 9:9.]" The Bible Knowledge Commentary adds, "He assured Peter that in spite of Satan’s desire to sift the disciples (you is pl. in the Gr.) like wheat (i.e., to put them through difficult times), Peter’s faith would not fail." I hope this helps, BradK |
