1 | Should we put right our wrongs? | Luke 19:8 | quickquestion | 152097
Hi, thanks - that reply was very helpful. But I don't know what to make of this verse. It sometimes makes me think there is a need to set right what wrongs you've done. Or you could say Zacchaeus wasn't feeling guilty but did it out of love. Either way, is there a need to set right wrongs, even though God has removed your guilt?

Making restitution (righting wrongs) was not just a good idea that came to Zacchaeus in the still of the night. When Zacchaeus restored what he had cheated people out of, he was obeying the Law of God. AMPLIFIED Luke 19:8 So then Zacchaeus stood up and solemnly declared to the Lord, See, Lord, the half of my goods I [now] give [by way of restoration] to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone out of anything, I [now] restore four times as much. [Exod. 22:1; Lev. 6:5; Num. 5:6, 7.] AMPLIFIED Exodus 22:1 IF A man steals an ox or sheep and kills or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, or four sheep for a sheep. AMPLIFIED Leviticus 6:5 Or anything about which he has sworn falsely; he shall not only restore it in full, but shall add to it one fifth more and give it to him to whom it belongs on the day of his trespass or guilt offering. AMPLIFIED Numbers 5:6-7 Say to the Israelites, When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person is guilty, then he shall confess the sin which he has committed, and he shall make restitution for his wrong in full, and add a fifth to it, and give it to him whom he has wronged. * * * * * * * * * * * * * www.seekfind.org Christian Search Engine The mission of SeekFind.org is to provide God-honoring, Biblically-based, and theologically-sound Christian search engine results in a highly accurate and well-organized format. |
