1 | Should I leave my church? | Luke 18:8 | thenoel2 | 189000
Should I leave my church? I know this is a tough question to answer. I am unsure if I should leave my church or not. Why do I even pose the question? Becuase somethings just do not seem right to me. Should I wait and try to aid in resolving the issues or should I just move elsewhere? I have been a part of this church since I was a teen - since the church began. It is a small community church; it is non-denominational; it is a Bible church. Here are somethings that make me pose the questions: 1. There has been no official Sr. Pastor for the past 2 1/2 years (right now we have 3 pastors that preach on Sundays and do some pastoral duties - none of them have been given the role/title as official Sr Pastor) 2. Most of the elders of the church do not line up to elder character traits as outlined in 1 Tim and Titus. 3. Though there are Thursday Bible studies and Sunday school very few people ever seem to attend 4. Seems to be a lack of proprer Biblically based leadership in the church On the upside the doctrinal statements of the church are Biblically based (though not always followed). I am the youth director at the church; I do this on a volunteer basis. However, I also have trouble getting youth members to come to regular meetings. Though it saddens my heart to leave the church - I am wondering if this is what I should do. I have prayed about it, but I feel I get mixed answers - or even none at all. Any advice is appreciated. |

2 | Should I leave my church? | Luke 18:8 | 00123 | 189001
I feel your pain. My church also has a very small group of people who regularly attend the adult Sunday Bible study classes. Only one class runs and its attendees are 2 percent of our congregation. There was no junior or senior high Sunday Bible class when we joined the church. So we urged the church to make a Bible class for youth. The church listened to my wife and me, opening a class. Now, my two kids are the only attendees to the class. The church sees no problem with people’s no interest in the Bible. His coming is very near. It is difficult for us to rely on the church for any spiritual development. But I am not leaving the church not because it is Biblical but because it is the best in town; others are worse. God bless you and take care of your agony in this end time! But your trouble is very common to many Christians today.

Thanks for your input. It is appreciated; unlike your situation - there are other churches around my town (some of which maybe better). This, however, does not ease my decision process. Just becuase some other place may do it better - does not mean that I should leave; I guess what I would also like to know is this - Has God left this church or is God still here and wanting it to exist. Is there anyway that I can ask some question or do some analysis to evaluate this? Others please look at my original question and continue to provide feedback if possible. |

At our church we do have Bible Study, Sunday School, and regular Sunday morning services; this is where believers get the Word from. We also have special events once in a while (ie, VBS). However, as mentioned Bible study and Sunday school attendance is very, very low. The teaching that does happen at the church is Biblical; there is nothing wrong or anything heretical about the teaching - in fact I think it is quite good. But there are other issues as mentioned in the original question. Can a church really exist Biblically and with God's blessings if all the leadership (elders/board) are not meeting the character requirements as outlined in Titus and 1 Tim? Our pastors - though we have no official Sr pastor - are good pastors Biblically and character wise - there teaching is well enough. But I feel as it has been almost 3 years with no offical Sr Pastor appointed that we somehow may be lacking vision due to this. We do once in a while get new members - in fact 2 new families are joining our church next week - but new members are far and few in between. The majority of church decisions seems to be made by one elder in particular. This elder is the strongest leader we have - he is one of the few elders that meet elder character traits according to the Bible. The problem is that he is too strong a leader - rarely anything he does can be opposed. |

Thence12 - From your sketch, it appears as though your church isn't a basket case in any sense! It is not reasonable to expect perfection in any body composed of imperfect human beings. The elder you mentioned may well be taking the lead only because no one else is willing to. Why don't you pray for God's wisdom and for His strength, then roll up your sleeves and get to work! You might be pleasantly surprised at how many sluggish members your example could help mobilize to action too. If you think you have problems and your church has problems, review what the apostles faced in the first century. Pray, be of good cheer, go to work, and see what happens! --Hank
