1 | Where was Abraham? | Luke 16:22 | 00123 | 225352
Angels carried Nasarus, the beggar, to Abraham. [Question 1] Where was Abraham when welcoming Nasarus? In the heaven or somewhere on the earth? What does the Bible say about this issue? [Question 2] Is this parable referring to the future when Jesus would come to the earth the second time? Or is it now, meaning a dead person immediately goes to either Abraham's bosom or the the hot place where the rich man went?
2 | Where was Abraham? | Luke 16:22 | BradK | 225353
Hello 00123, In answer to your questions: 1. Verse 23 would give us a direct textual answer, "In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom." On this Robertson notes, "Into Abraham’s bosom [eis ton holpon Abraam]. To be in Abraham’s bosom is to the Jew to be in Paradise. In John 1:18 the Logos is in the bosom of the Father. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are in heaven and welcome those who come (Matt. 8:11; IV Macc. 14:17)." [Robertson, A. (1997). Word Pictures in the New Testament]; 2. ABRAHAM’S BOSOM — (Luke 16:22,23) refers to the custom of reclining on couches at table, which was prevalent among the Jews, an arrangement which brought the head of one person almost into the bosom of the one who sat or reclined above him. To “be in Abraham’s bosom” thus meant to enjoy happiness and rest (Matt. 8:11; Luke 16:23) at the banquet in Paradise. [Easton, M. (1996). Easton's Bible Dictionary] I hope this helps, BradK |

3 | Paradise is Heaven? Would you clarify? | Luke 16:22 | 00123 | 225355
BradK, Are you saying the Paradise is the Heaven? If so, I'm confused. After resurrected, Jesus said, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’" (John 20:17). But he went to the Paradise right after his death until the resurrection. Then, it seems clear that the Paradise cannot be the Heaven where God our Father lives. 00123 |

4 | Paradise is Heaven? Would you clarify? | Luke 16:22 | Carefree Llama | 225356
Is it not possible that Jesus needed to ascend to the Father after He was risen from the dead? I understand your point about Him not ascending yet, but that obviously means He hadn't ascended after either dying or rising. Because we know Jesus came from heaven so He would have been there before. Maybe He needed to raise from the dead before He could present Himself as "the Lamb". He must have had to conquer sin and death. Which after He died he hadn't conquered yet, until this moment in John 20:17. Now that He had conquered death and sin He can ascend. |

Therefore, can we say the Paradise where Jesus went together with the thief on the cross was not the Heaven?
