1 | Explain the relationship between things | Luke 14:26 | Aixen7z4 | 101239
Hello Makarios: That is getting to the point. But would't that be a tough one for a new Christian? What if we asked him to read the Gospel of John? He might just observe in that one how Jesus related to his natural family, and how they became a part of his spiritual family. Happily, people can be related both ways. If that does not work out, we might be in a better position to understand the alternative.
2 | Explain the relationship between things | Luke 14:26 | Makarios | 101269
Greetings Aixen7z4, For a new Christian, yes, that would be a hard verse to accept. Perhaps I should have gone into the greater meaning there, and explained that the verse simply means that we, as believers, must love Christ more, and must be more willing to do His will more than love our own families. It is only in the 'comparison' between the love that we have for Christ and the love that we have for our families that Jesus uses the word "hate" in this verse. We shouldn't hate or neglect our families in any way, but our love for them should almost be leaning towards neglect when compared with what our love for Christ should be. That is the message that I glean from that verse, and I hope that that was the message that was communicated to our friend, wherever they were in their spiritual walk with Him. Blessings to you, Makarios |
