Hi Brookelynne 1982, Matthew 12:32, NASB, "And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the (Holy) Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come." Luke 12:10, "And everyone who will speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the (Holy) Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him." The parentheses are mine for comparison. These verses are a "match" in my personal study of pronouns of Deity. I am not about to change my mind about these verses talking about the Person of the triune God. However, I think that your point is well taken that if you blaspheme against the Spirit you blaspheme against the Man Jesus Christ and God the Father who is Spirit. I don't know how much we can talk together since your shift key doesn't get used; but I think that the idea of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit really revolves around the holy spirit [sic]. Luke 12:12 says, "for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." I believe that this is talking about the Person. What we ought to say are the words that we are filled with, words of Psalms, hymns, and praise to God. We speak out of our good treasure the things that fill our hearts. See Matthew 12:32-37. I believe that we are to be filled with the holy spirit. What I am trying to say is that Holy Spirit and the holy spirit are as close to each other as the Word and the word of God are. We are told to test the spirits. The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was shown in Matthew and Luke when the people said that this was an unclean spirit who was healing this demon-possessed man. But Jesus was saying that He cast out demons by the *spirit of God. Mark 6:7 tells us that He was giving His disciples authority over the unclean spirits. I starred the *spirit in the paragraph above because it is capitalized in the NASB and NKJ. But "spirit" is my choice because I match these Scriptures. Matthew 12:28, "But if I cast out demons by the *spirit of (God), then the kingdom of God has come upon you." Luke 11:20, "But if I cast out demons by the *finger of (God), then the kingdom of God has come upon you." So the idea here is that the power of God is blasphemed when the people claim that He is an unclean spirit. Mark 3:29, "but whoever blasphemes against the (Holy) Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"--because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." God is true: John 3:34, "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of (God); for He gives the *spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand." "I don't know how much we can talk together since your shift key doesn't get used" i'm not sure what you mean by that....my lack of capitalization? if so i dont mean it disrespectfully, i just have a habit of typing with no caps, as you can see i dont even capitalize "i", but if this proves to be confusing or offensive i can certainly amend that. thank you so much for your thoughtful response. it's given me a lot to think about. i'm going to mull this over and if i still have any questions i'll post them in a little while. thanks again. |
