1 | follow up to blasphemy question | Luke 11:20 | brookelynne1982 | 91617
The key begins in verse 24. Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not recognizing Him as the Spirit of God, rejecting Him who is the one who draws us to Christ. If we reject the Holy Spirit calling Him evil as the Pharasees did, we can't come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ." so why is it forgivable to blaspheme against god and the son? |

2 | follow up to blasphemy question | Luke 11:20 | Ray | 91618
Hi Brookelynne 1982, It is interesting to compare the NASB and the NKJ for Matthew 12:23,24. The NASB says "This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?...This man casts out demons only be Beezebul the ruler of the demons." For my personal copy I capitalize Man, He, and this Man again because I know that He is who He said He was, the Son of God. I capitalize them because this Man is the Son (God) of David. This Man is God in the flesh. Yet the flesh is not what we concentrate on; we want to think of the things of the Spirit. In Luke 11:27,28, we read of the woman speaking up from the crowd and saying, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts at which You nursed." But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and observe it." We want to know that Jesus is God, God is Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is God. And there is only one God. Who is this god [sic] that is in your question? From the heart, Ray |

"We want to know that Jesus is God, God is Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is God. And there is only one God. Who is this god [sic] that is in your question?" personally my interpretation fo the bible leads me to believe that there is one god, that his son is jesus christ and that both of these entities are separate from the holy spirit. if all three are one and the same, then i have to go back to the scripture i quoted originally in Matthew:32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. ' if the holy spirit is the same as 'the son', how can blasphemy against one be forgiven while blasphemy against the other cannot? i very sincerely thank you for your efforts to help me with this question, it's been bothering me for quite some time. thanks. |

Trinity - a word not found in Scripture, but used to express the doctrine of the unity of God as subsisting in three distinct Persons. This word is derived from the Gr. trias, first used by Theophilus (A.D. 168-183), or from the Lat. trinitas, first used by Tertullian (A.D. 220), to express this doctrine. The propositions involved in the doctrine are these: 1. That God is one, and that there is but one God (Deut. 6:4; 1 Kings 8:60; Isa. 44:6; Mark 12:29, 32; John 10:30). 2. That the Father is a distinct divine Person (hypostasis, subsistentia, persona, suppositum intellectuale), distinct from the Son and the Holy Spirit. 3. That Jesus Christ was truly God, and yet was a Person distinct from the Father and the Holy Spirit. 4. That the Holy Spirit is also a distinct divine Person. (Easton's) The Trinity is composed of 3 persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is God. They are 3 in person but one in essence. John |

"The Trinity is composed of 3 persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is God. They are 3 in person but one in essence." i personally happen to have a different take on the topic, but my question really wasnt about the trinity. for the sake of discussion we'll assume that the trinity theory is correct and the father, son and holy spirit are indeed 3 in person but one in essence. wouldnt one have to conclude, then, that blasphemy against one would equal blasphemy against all three, therefore all blasphemy would be either forgivable or not forgivable? but the scripture in Matthew states otherwise. how can this be? again, i really appreciate your guidance on this subject, i'm writing a paper on it and this dialogue has been quite helpful so far. |

Brookelynne1982: 2 Corinthains 13:14. Ths Scripture is positive proof there is a trinity. I personally take Duet. 29:29 and apply it to the Trinity. There are some things about God we as humans can not comprehend. I have herad the illustrations about the egg, shell, yoke, and the white. But nothing I have found really gives a complete answer. So I walk by faith. I believe The Lord Almighty God Has three personhoods, and yet is one. I can not explain it, I accept the reality of what we do know. Blasphemy is defing the Holy Spirit by rejecting the Holy Spirits plea to make Jesus Christ Lord. The rejection of Jesus is eternal death and hell. For rejecting Jesus there is no forgivness! I hope this helps. Any thoughts? justme |
