Scripture ... Matt 6:5-15, Luke 11:1-4 ........ Prayer is between you and God. PERIOD. Others may listen, but we should never pray to "tickle their ears" or even preach to them. The prayers in Matthew and Luke should be our pattern. Notice the focus on Him; our position, including the pronouns and how little of the prayer is about our lists. I learned alot from John MacArthur. -Go to http://www.gty.org/resources.php -Select --Matthew 6 --Transcripts ... press Go Read each sermon. You may want to Google "Disciples Prayer" or "Pattern Prayer". Thanksgiving is important part of prayer (Phi 4:6, Col 4:2, 1Ti 2:1) ... read the context. So keep a journal of your requests and the answers (yes, no and wait), as well as things He has done for you w/o your asking. Searcher |

I have also found these verses very helpful in knowing how to pray. 1 John 5:14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. Mark 11:22 And Jesus *answered saying to them, "Have faith in God. Mark 11:23 "Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. Mark 11:25 "Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. Mark 11:26 ["But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions."] OldPilgrim. |
