1 | deny himself, and take up his cross | Mark 8:34 | Searcher56 | 215620 | ||
John, People THINK they have rights. Little do those without Christ know they are slaves to sin, as Romans 6:16-20 and other passages tell all. They think they are exercising their rights, having it their way ... but, their slavemaster, Satan, is in control. Looking at the context of this verse (Mark 8:27-38) and the cross reference (Matt 16:13-28, Luke 9:18-27) it is not giving a little more of yourself daily ... but to be willing to physically die for Him daily. Dear Searcher, Yes, I understand the meaning behind those verses. [Just being honest with myself here] To answer to the affirmative [for me at least] would be rather subjective -the spirit being willing but the flesh being weak- and since I don't really know how I would react if that opportunity should arise. Though I only hope and pray that the Holy Spirit would be in control at that point, and I would subject myself, by His grace, to His control. The best I can do and, the best I've been able to do, and by His grace alone, is to die a little each day. That being said; am I willing? Yes. John |
