in mark 7:27-30 it is talking about letting children eat all they want before you throw their bread crumbs to the dogs. and how the dogs under the table will eat the children's crumbs. can someone explain to me what they think the children, the dog, and the bread mean. thank you. | ||||||

Dear lilroxysis09, This is called an analogy. Mark, whose readers were Gentiles, was affirming the faith of the Syrophenecian woman who approached Jesus for healing. Christs earthly ministry was primarily to the children of Israel, as such, He is unwilling to withhold from His own to give to the dogs. (Dogs were unclean animals.) The woman, as a Gentile, understood that she was also unclean. She extends Christ's analogy to humbly suggest that even the crumbs left by the children are sufficient to the dogs. Her humble spirit and simple faith elicited the compassion of the Lord, and rendered her position in the Word of God. In Him, Doc |
