1 | A question about the Sabbath Day | Mark 2:27 | Alencon | 118966
I would like to hear opinions on an interpretation I have read regarding Mark 2:27. Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: This interpretation states that this relieves man of adherence to the commandment to keep the Sabbath Holy, effectively reducing the Ten Commandments to Nine. I had never heard this before. Can anyone provide guidance? |

2 | A question about the Sabbath Day | Mark 2:27 | EdB | 118967
Alencon I believe Jesus was giving the correct definition here to the Sabbath, it was created for man to give him a day of rest for his labors as a blessing. The world had turned into to a day of religious slavery. Jesus goes on testifies that He is the Lord of the Sabbath therefore able to supply the definition but also to fulfill that day of rest. Jesus was also Shiloh the rest giver. Our rest comes from Him. This concept is discussed in Hebrews chapter 4 where it clearly says believers enter into the rest Heb 4:3. The Sabbath carried a prophetic promise of rest in Lord and Jesus was the fulfillment of that promise, therefore it was no longer required of man to observe the day as reminder of the promise because the promise had come. Today we celebrate Sunday, some mistakenly as a Sabbath, but the real meaning should be a day of celebration remembering the resurrection and our Lord. Jesus clearly told us he didn’t come to set aside the law but to free us from it’s penalty and to fulfill the law. Passover was a eternal feast yet we don’t celebrate it. Why? Because Jesus was the fulfillment of the feast. Just as Jesus is the fulfillment of the Sabbath. EdB |

3 | A question about the Sabbath Day | Mark 2:27 | Rowdy | 118971
I have to agree with EdB on his post but I would also add that the first four of the Ten Commandments were issued to honor God. Whereas the latter six were issued to help mankind make a better life for himself. God knows that when we follow his guidelines and commands, things just go better for us as humans. It's always been that way because God created us and He knows how we can live our lives to be complete and self-fulfilled. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy
