1 | Comparing Mark 2;26 with 1 Samuel 21:1 | Mark 2:26 | DocTrinsograce | 181418 | ||
Hi, gdh... The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge states, "The most probable opinion seems to be, that both father and son had two names, the father being also called Abiathar; and this appears almost certain from 2 Samuel 8:17; 1 Chronicles 18:16, where Ahimelech seems evidently termed Abiathar, while Abiathar is called Ahimelech or Abimelech. (Cf 1 Kings 2:26, 27.)" Although I'm sure there has been much discussion and speculation since this statement was penned, it sounds reasonable. It probably represents the general concensus, while avoiding problematic conjecture. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Grace... Thank you for the encouragent. I just read a lot, ma'am. I attend theology courses at Missouri Baptist University, as the Lord provides. In addition, the majority of my free time is spent listening to MP3 lectures and sermons. I'm blessed with a good library, both traditional and electronic. (The latter is more valuable to me as I am partially sighted.) But the forum isn't about us... it is about the Word of God. I pray that that is what stays in the hearts and minds of our readers... not what this old, beatup layman has to say! ;-) In Him, Doc |
