AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 2:26 how he went into the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat, and how he also gave it to the men who were with him?" [1 Sam 21:1-6] |
Bible Question (short): When is the sabbath? |
Question (full): The Bible says: (I forgot the verses I was reading sorry) When Moses went up to Mt. Sinai (sp?) to get the Commandments from God the second time since the first ones were broken it said that Moses ate no bread and drank no water for forty days and forty nights. Also it says that when Moses came down from the mountain after talking to God that the "skin of his face was not shone" and from what I gathered it scared the people so it went on to say that Moses put a veil over his face until he got inside the church to talk to God but after he left the church he put the veil back on. What does "the skin of his face was not shone" mean? Also, we were debating the "forty days and forty nights" statment. My belief is that forty days and nights its just a metaphor for a long period of time and not exactly a month and ten days. My second question in the bible (once again I don't remember the verses) it says that you are to rest on the sabbath and anyone caught working on the sabbath should be put to death. It also says you are not allowed to have a fire in your house on the sabbath. What I want to know is does God make exceptions to these rules? I know that Jesus said something like if your cow falls in a well on Sunday you won't let it die or something to that effect. Also how do we know what day the sabbath is? Christians say its Sunday but Jews say its Saturday and Jesus was Jewish so that must mean to Jesus the sabbath is Saturday. How do we know what day it is? Like when God was creating heaven and earth it talks in terms of "days" but how do we know how long a day is to God? A day could be minutes, hours, or even years. How do we know what Gods concept of time is? Now going back to the sabbath, I know that it says God rested on the seventh day. If you start your week on Monday then naturally seven days is Sunday but we don't know what "day" God started creating the earth and us. So how do we know which day is the sabbath? Do you think we will ever truly know what the real day is? Thank you and I hope someone will be able to give me better answers then the other ones I have received. |
