The King James version, after "you will have treasure in heaven", adds: "pick up the cross, and come follow me." Why is this phrase not in the NASB, or any other english translation?
2 | Mark 10:21: Why only the KJV? | Mark 10:21 | Ray | 148035
Hi Santaanacanyon, Can I call you Santa or Anna or something else a little easier to write? :o)) The translations used varying manuscripts and some do not have in them, "having taken up the cross." But the phrase of importance of "and come follow Me" is found in the NASB. 1) This passage in Mark is before the cross, so I would be prone to seeing "having taken up the cross" to be a later addition to the text. 2) Our treasure is not in bearing a cross, but rather is found in following Him. 1) You can call me SAC for short. 2) The phrase "pick up the cross" was widely used in Jesus' day. Jesus was not telling the Ruler to carry Christ's cross. Jesus could have been using the vernacular that meant to put an end to something (another way of saying repent?). |
