2 | Jesus called Good teacher | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 131113
Hi Noveta, I am considering the stress that Jesus was giving on his question in verse 18, "Why do you call me good?" Is He asking, "Why do you call me Good?" or is He asking, "Why do you call Me good?" I believe He is asking "Why do you call Me good?" in the question. I believe also that He is claiming to be the one God. 1) Jesus is not telling him to not call him good; He is asking him WHY he is calling Him good. In other words, does he know who He is? Matthew 23:8 tells us that we should not be called Rabbi; "for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ." The fact that Jesus is our Teacher and our Leader encourages me to interpret John 3:2 with a capitalized pronoun of "Teacher". John 3:2, "this man came to Him by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a *Teacher; for no One can do these things that You do unless God is with Him." Could you agree with this interpretation? From the heart, Ray |

3 | Jesus called Good teacher | Mark 10:18 | Morant61 | 131121
Greetings Ray! I think you are right on my friend! Jesus wasn't denying that He was Good. He was simply trying to get the young man to understand that He was in fact Good. The young man had spoken the truth without even realizing it! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | Jesus called Good teacher | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 131160
Hi Tim, Thanks for the encouragement. This idea of His Goodness applies to our discussion on a different thread about there only being one God. Only One is good. Matthew 19:17, "And **He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." 18 He said to Him,/ "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not..." Mark 10:17, "And as He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and began asking **Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 18 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me/ good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, "Do not..." Yes, our God is a great Teacher, and He declares all things to us. Isaiah 45:19, NKJ, "I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, 'Seek Me in vain'; I, the Lord speak righteousness, (I)declare things that are right." Oh, to know the (Truth) better and better, more and more. From the heart, Ray |
