1 | Should we use Religious titles here? | Mark 10:18 | justme | 90972
Why do those of you who use the title PASTOR, REV., OVERSEER, ELDER, DEACON, DR., or something simular do so? Is the use of these titles a way of assueing me you know more than me, or that you have more spirituallity? For me these titles are used by the Church you belong to or the denomination with whom you belong to. In this Forum we are just men and women exchanging questions, or attempting to understand the Bible better. I personally find the use of these titles in the Forum forcing others to show respect to your title, rather than the Bible wisdom you have. Any thoughts?
2 | Should we use Religious titles here? | Mark 10:18 | John Reformed | 91553
Justme, What if I were to take offense at your choice of user name? I might feel as if you were putting your humility on parade. That you were deliberately making a statement about yourself which was meant to show up the rest of us as arrogant and proud. Of course, I don't believe that of you at all! But,should we not give others the same courtesy; To think more highly of them than we do of ourselves. I must confess that I too am also prone to prejudice when it comes to the choices of some names. Some seem arrogant, some confusing, some too long, some just plain silly. In fact, if I had it to do over again, I would perhaps change my name to one that was less theologically explicit. I thought Clay or Lump O'Clay would be a good name for me :-) God Bless, John Reformed (aka Lumpy) |

5 | Should we use Religious titles here? | Mark 10:18 | Morant61 | 91588
:-) I was thinking of changing my name to: AssociatePastorandMostReverendTimothyScottMoranformerlyknownasMorant61 How would that work? :-) I'm just joking, but I would add on a serious note that I have no problem with addressing people by earned titles. I think it is simply a matter of showing respect. I used to live next to a couple of my professors. Outside of the classroom, I simply called them by their first names as we were friends, but in the classroom, I always addressed them as Dr. So and So! The only problem with using a title here on the forum is that you then have to live up to it! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
