1 | Should we use Religious titles here? | Mark 10:18 | Hank | 90979
Justme: Interesting question! I'm not particularly impressed by the number of degrees a person strings after his name and even less by self-imposed titles. One of the very worst pastors I ever sat under had his doctorate and one of the best had only a high-school diploma (that was years ago). Since we all of us on this forum are essentially anonymous, titles mean absolutely nothing. I could sign in with a user name of "Hank, Ph.D." if I wanted to and who'd really know whether I was genuine or a fraud? Respect on this forum and in life must, in the final analysis, be earned. --Hank

Hank: I think we have somehow been taught to respect those who have EARNED and lived the title of some degrees. But education does not equate always with wisdom. Just as quiet person does not mean a deep thinker. In most Christian magizines the add section is filled with bought degrees and ordainations. In the Forum there is the protection, if that's the word I am looking for, that allows us not to prove to all of Christendom how little we know, or how theologicaly messed up we are. I see some really deep thought go into some of the answers, and I grow by reading and learning ideas I had not heard or thought of. You have EARNED respect by the notes you make, and your use of Scripture. Somehow that kind of respect is more meaningfull if not insisted upon others by demand in your title before your pen name. I recently heard a taped message given by Bill Bright just before his passing. Bill refered to God as Holy Father. That struck me as genuine humbleness. I felt I needed to learn a lesson from his example. Blessings. justme |
