1 | What is the correct way to pray | Matt 6:9 | lorenzosjb | 132384 | ||
In latin america more and more often we see people saying public prays with words like: "By the authority of God", "Receive the blow of the Holy Ghost" (the preacher blows to the audience, "Receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit". TV channels like Enlace (sort of TBN spanish channel) asks for money in exchange of blessings: "believe God and what you give to the ministry will multiply!?" So is there a complete study of how to pray? As we are new born in Jesus, do we need to seek and follow only what is in the New Testament? Thanks, and sorry for the grammar. Lorenzo Jimenez |

Hi Lorenzosjb, The Scripture reference for the prayer that you see people praying in public is John 20:22. 1) "By the authority of God": If the preacher is claiming to breathe on them with God's authority, then he is making himself out to be God. John 20:21, "Jesus therefore said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you." Jesus sent the disciples forth; and this preacher is now saying that he [sic] in a sense was sending his listeners out. 2) "Receive the blow of the Holy Ghost" (the preacher blows to the audience),": Here again, the preacher is making himself out to be deity. John 20:22, "And when He said this, He breathed on them,..." The breath that Jesus breathed on His disciples is not the breath that this preacher blew on his listeners. The breath of the Man Jesus Christ is not the same as this preacher man. 3) "Receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit": If the preacher goes on from there and uses his breath for preaching the word of God, then perhaps he is on the right track and can prove himself to be sent from God; then perhaps he can send his listeners forth with an anointing. If, however, he says that he can forgive sins you better be on guard again. John 20:23, "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." From the heart, Ray |
