God's day to you, Kalos, It was the best Scripture to use in the situation. Can you think of a better OT passage than He did? Jesus also could have not given an answer or ignored him. Steve
2 | When tempted why did Jesus quote the Law | Matt 4:4 | kalos | 153827
Steve: Yes, those were the best Scriptures to use in the situation. Surely Jesus, the Messiah, knew the best Scriptures to use. And no, I cannot think of a better OT passage than He did. It would be presumptuous to claim I could have answered better than Jesus. Also, I think it is significant that Jesus quoted the Law -- He didn't reason with the devil, He didn't attempt to persuade the devil, He didn't argue with him. He merely quoted THE LAW and that was the end of it. The Law itself was adequate. Grace to you, Kalos |
