bcollier, At these two links you can read from the book of 1 Macabees how the Romans first connected with the Jews in a treaty of freindship, but they later became despotic rulers and occupiers of Israel. Judas Macabee was one of the leaders of a Jewsish revolt against the Selucid kings who had invaded and desecrated the Temple.
