1 | Trim their lamps? | Matt 25:7 | Mommapbs | 109876 | ||
Greetings Rowdy! As I read God's Word, there are some things that grab my attention - when this happens, I reflect and meditate on the verse or passage. Also, God usually "speaks" to me through object lessons, so, my prayer is that through this, God would teach me to trim my lamp. As I researched this, I found that lamps in Bible times were most often made of oval shaped pottery. One end was actually a small bowl or resevoir for the olive oil (it was plentiful and inexpensive - like the Grace of God, bountiful, without limit and FREE!). The other end was pinched tight to make a groove which held the wick. Oil lamps were usually the only source of indoor lighting and gave off about 40w of light.(That's pretty dim, but even a spark can be seen in the darkness!) It is important to keep a wick properly trimmed. If this is ignored, the lamp will smoke. (Not only will the light be compromised, but smoking oil stinks!) So now, all this being said . . . the Holy Spirit is the oil, Jesus is the Light that burns and are we the wick?! What would cause the Light to not burn properly? What might cause the wick to smoke? Too much wick! So, there are things in my life that need to be trimmed, so that the Light of Jesus will burn most brightly, so that others will see only Him and not the "smokey" results of my own efforts. I have an endless source of supply and a Light that will never be extinguished. (But it can be hidden and it may also be obscurred by poor trimming . . .) So, may the Lord show each of us where we need to be "trimmed." What needs to be removed so that the pure Oil may burn most brightly. And may we fan one another's flames in the process! Blessings, mommapbs PS: As the Lord reveals, I'll be happy to share; but this is all I can "see" right now. How thankful I am that He is gentle in exposing my length of excess wick! Trimming is recognizing sin, repenting and appropriating the forgiveness and cleansing that are mine IN Christ - for in Him I have everything I need for life and Godliness 2 Peter 1:3 and lastly yeilding my body as a "living sacrifice" through which the oil can freely flow and burn so that others will see not me but Jesus. |
