MacArthur's Study Bible states, "'one will be taken.' i.e., taken in judgment (cf. v.39) just as in Noah's day ("took them"; v.39). This is clearly not a reference to the catching away of believers described in 1 Thess. 4:16,17." The Believer's Study Bible states, "24:39-42.. The context of the passage would seem to indicate that the judgment of Christ’s return and not the rapture of the church is in view. The "one taken" (vv. 40, 41) is taken in judgment; the one remaining is blessed to enter with the Lord into kingdom blessings. Indeed, the rapture of believers (1 Thess 4:13-18), it would seem, is not discussed in Matt. 24; 25." Ryrie's Study Bible states, "24:40-41: The ones taken will be taken to judgment and death. The ones left will be left to enter the blessings of the millennial kingdom." The Disciple's Study Bible states, "MATTHEW 24:36-44: Last Things, Demands Preparedness—The text warns against predictions about the time of Christ’s return and cautions believers that not knowing the time of His return demands we stay ever prepared. Like those of Noah’s time who were caught unprepared for a flood, so will it be for many at the coming of the Son of man. In their unpreparedness, people will be going about the normal activities of life when the unexpected overtakes them. The good servant is prepared for the Lord at any time. Compare 24:45-25:13." |
