2 | What is meant by "on a Sabbath?" | Matt 24:20 | Searcher56 | 68432
Scripture ... Exo 16:29, Num 35:5, Jos 3:4, Mat 24:20, Act 1:12 ... retxar, greetings. "On a Sabbath" means Saturday, or Friday 6 PM to Saturday 6 PM. In Acts 1:12 we read about a Sabbath's day journey, which wasn't very far. The rabbis based this on the OT (Exo 16:29, Num 35:5, Jos 3:4). Even in escaping one couldn't travel far on the Sabbath, by tradition ... in the winter, travel would be tough. Hope that helps, Searcher |

6 | Travel plans during the tribulation? | Matt 24:20 | Emmaus | 68518
retxar, I think it helps to note that many Jewish Christians up until the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. were still observing many of the laws or practices of the Old Covenant as indicated in various plces in the book of Acts. According to the preterist interpretation of many apocolyptic verses, these prophecies were fulfilled in the siege and destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. Which does not preclude a further fulfillment at the end of this age. Perhaps others will have additional input on this interesting question. Emmaus |
