1 | how do I identify false teachers | Matt 23:1 | EdB | 127943 | ||
I am seeking understanding of Matthew 23:1-36; which is summarized in Mark 12: 38-40 regarding Jesus’ teaching about how we should be aware of false teachers. Question How can we identify false “religious keepers” when most clergy people “38…walk around in long robes…like to have the respect of men as they stand in the center of town where people gather….39…have important seats in the places of worship and the important places at big suppers.”? Ans: Watch them, do they display a servants heart or a do they like to be served? A true man of God wants to serve the people, he has a heart for doing this. He doesn’t want to sit high and lifted up he wants to be in with the people helping and doing what he can. Question: What character traits, behaviors, etc. are most indicative of false religious law-keepers who have found a secure title and position within the church? Ans: Almost the same as above. What attitudes do they display? Is it an attitude of serving or being served, do they view their ministry as a call or profession? Are they among the people or just chosen few? Is their phone number listed or unlisted? Are they more worried about salary or welfare of the people? Are they there when you need them most? Do they try to charge for every function they do? Question: Is the answer to the above is found in the fact that most clergy do not “40 … take houses from women whose husbands have died….” ? Ans: yes there are many many people in ministry today for the money, what they can get out of it, prestige and glory. Ministry is a call a life style not a profession, career or vocation. Mark 12: 41-44 infers that a poor widow who willingly gives all to the church will be rewarded for being the most giving. Question? What’s the difference between taking widows’ houses and accepting the gift of widows’ houses? How does a widow know if she’s giving or “being taken?” Ans: Who initiated the transaction and who profited from it? If the widow felt lead to do this then I would say it was from the Lord. If the pastor or someone from the church suggested it then I would guess it was initiated there also. Who profited from it the church or the community? Your willingness to take the time to help me understand is more appreciated than you can know. God Bless you and yours, EdB |

Cheri Obviously we both know this whole thing stinks. I'm not sure your right when you say no law of man was broken, however a lawyer would need to get involved. Emmaus has given you a contact to explore through the church, I think you need to do that. If nothing else know that none of this went unnoticed by God and one day justice will be served. Jesus said "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26 However I would not give up on seeing justice done here on earth. You need to contact a lawyer that will get involved and you also need to contact the people Emmaus referrenced. EdB |
