1 | Which son did the will of the father? | Matt 21:28 | mark d seyler | 146243
Matt 21:28-31 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' "And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. "The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go. "Which of the two did the will of his father?" They *said, "The first." Jesus *said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. The disciples said it was the first son who did the will of the Father. Jesus did not correct them - they were right. The Pharisees claimed to do the will of God, but when you came right down to it, they did not. The tax collectors and prostitutes worshipped Jesus, and received Him as Messiah, even though they began their lives in rebellion. Jesus spoke this parable against the Pharisees, telling them that though they said they would serve they did not, and that the protitutes and tax collectors, who said they would not serve, regretted it and turned, and served God, and would enter the Kingdom ahead of them. Jesus wants us to know that its not our words that count, its what we do. If we say we will do God's will and do not do it, our words don't help us. We must do the things He commands. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

2 | Which son did the will of the father? | Matt 21:28 | Emmaus | 146245
Mark, A parallel OT passage to Matt 28-31 is Ezekiel 18:21-24. "But if the wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed and observes all My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die. All his transgressions which he has committed will not be remembered against him; because of his righteousness which he has practiced, he will live. Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked," declares the Lord GOD, "rather than that he should turn from his ways and live? But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them he will die." Emmaus |
