Bible Question:
mattm21:28-31 Earlier I asked, "Which of the two sons did the will of his father?" And Why? The answer I got was the first son, since he rebeiled but, then did the will of his father. When Jesus asked his deciples, which of the two did the will of his father? They answered "The first." Jesus answered in(Matt 21:31). His answer emplies that the second son did the will of the father. I would have answered the first son also. This has confused me. Can you tell me why Jesus says the second son did the will of his father? |
Bible Answer: Matt 21:28-31 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' "And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. "The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go. "Which of the two did the will of his father?" They *said, "The first." Jesus *said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. The disciples said it was the first son who did the will of the Father. Jesus did not correct them - they were right. The Pharisees claimed to do the will of God, but when you came right down to it, they did not. The tax collectors and prostitutes worshipped Jesus, and received Him as Messiah, even though they began their lives in rebellion. Jesus spoke this parable against the Pharisees, telling them that though they said they would serve they did not, and that the protitutes and tax collectors, who said they would not serve, regretted it and turned, and served God, and would enter the Kingdom ahead of them. Jesus wants us to know that its not our words that count, its what we do. If we say we will do God's will and do not do it, our words don't help us. We must do the things He commands. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
