Dear Chuck, Welcome to the forum! The NASB makes use of "the latest available manuscripts with a view to determining the best Greek text." Most of the time they used the 26th edition of Eberhard Nestle's Novum Testamentum Graece." The King James Version of the New Testament used the Textus Receptus assembled by Desiderius Erasmus (1516). Apparently, the word prototokos did not appear in Nestle's Greek text. Consequently, we may surmise that the presence of the word in the Textus Receptus has since been brought into question in modern textual criticism. The particulars would necessarily have to be researched on that basis.
