Fasting can be called prayer without words. When we fast, we tune into the Holy Spirit and hear what He has to say. We can fast for a number of reasons: (2)To find out God's will in a certain situation; (2)To draw close to God; (3) To honor God, are just a few of the reasons we fast. If you really want to get close to God, I suggest a 3-day fast. Not for diabetics. Janae |

Hello, I found this description of fasting on the net. Now, I'm not the best of orators, and I'm not illiterate (?). But, can someone explain what this is saying in simple English? "Finally, in the strict acceptation of the term, fasting denotes abstinence from food, and as such is an act of temperance finding its raison d'ĂȘtre in the dictates of natural law and its full perfection in the requirements of positive ecclesiastical legislation." terrib |

Dear Terrib, It might be paraphrased, sort of, as, "Strictly speaking fasting means not eating. Therefore it is an act of self restraint mostly having value for normal/natural reasons. But it is of the most value when done for religious reasons." In Him, Doc |
