1 | Seventy seven or seventy times seven? | Matt 18:22 | Morant61 | 40929 | ||
Greetings Thestraws! Just to add to what Steve said, the Greek literally says "Seventy/times seven". The problem is that the most natural way of writing our 70 X 7 would have been "Seventy/times Seven/times". However, in some writings, this same phrase as used in Mt. 18:22 appears to mean 490 as opposed to 77. Like Steve, I think 490 is probably correct, but important point isn't the number! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Steve and Tim, Thanks for the responses! It is interesting how there are some minor issues in translation like this. Like I alluded to in my question, I know the important point here is that we are to forgive as many times as it takes. Keeping a count would be the opposite of what Jesus meant. I just always like to know that what I say about Scripture is as accurate as I can make it. Thanks! God bless, Mike |
