1 | That we may grow thereby | Matt 18:15 | YenIsaRap | 218073
I have been here but a short time therefore everyone may feel as though I have no voice in the matter. But I find fault with the last few posts in this thread. "Why did Paul do it? For conscience sake?" There have been comments made that have been neither edifying to, for, or about a brother nor uplifting for the forum in general. There is a proper way for this matter to have been handled. I have not said these things in defense of this brother. He was in the wrong. But rather for the possible betterment of the forum as a whole in the future. There are those that come here seeking knowledge do we want to show them petty bickering and strife? 2Ti 3:16,17 16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (Scripture follows) Matt.18:15,21,22 15) Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him ALONE: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 21) Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, HOW OFT SHALL MY BROTHER SIN AGAINST ME, and I forgive him? TILL SEVEN TIMES? 22) Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, UNTIL SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN. 1 Cor. 6:7 7) Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. WHY DO YOU RATHER NOT TAKE WRONG? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? Matt.6:38,39 38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39) But I say unto you, THAT YOU RESIST NOT EVIL: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, TURN TO HIM THE OTHER ALSO. 2 | That we may grow thereby | Matt 18:15 | DocTrinsograce | 218075
Dear YenisaRap, Our society is one that places a high value on amicability. Indeed, we are a people who even cherish friendliness above truth. Consequently, we often confuse respect for people with respect for positions. We are frequently more interested in peaceful coexistence than in sound doctrine. I do not find Scripture in support of these things. Nor do we see examples of that worldly sort of toleration and charity exhibited in Scripture. Even the passages that you provided are directed to how believers are to relate in the context of the local congregation. We are to be a meek people, as our Lord commands. However, meekness should not be confused with weakness. As A. W. Pink put it, "God-given meekness can also stand up for God-given rights: when God’s glory is impeached, we must have a zeal which is as hot as fire." John Calvin put it in another way, "A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God's Truth was attacked and yet would remain silent." I suspect that Martin Luther expressed it most succinctly when he said, "I am not permitted to let my love be so merciful as to tolerate and endure false doctrine. When faith and doctrine are concerned and endangered, neither love nor patience are in order... when these are concerned, neither toleration nor mercy are in order, but only anger, dispute, and destruction -- to be sure, only with the Word of God as our weapon." As a study Bible forum, in a public venue, we draw the attention of many who express heterodoxy of one form or another. Lockman, our gracious host, has provided a set of guidelines. When they deem that those terms of use have been violated, they have been known to intercede. Thank you for your concern, miss, and your encouragement for righteous behavior. Your participation in our study is much appreciated. In Him, Doc |
