1 | concerning the death of John the Baptist | Matt 14:12 | JCrichton | 126189 | ||
Hi, Leslie N! I understand what you mean... My position is that there were no limitations to Him only to the office He occupied: As the Lamb of God, Jesus did not come to reveal all Truth (John 16:12-15). As an example: Paul reveals that Jesus was the rock that gave life to the people of Israel (1 Corinthians 10:4)--we do not see that revelation given to the people of Israel until Paul addresses the Corinthians with that argument! It was not that Jesus did not exists until the incarnation of the Word; rather it is that Yahweh, the Father, dealt directly with the people of Israel--revealing only reflections of Christ. At the age of twelve Jesus is found at the Temple teaching the teachers! When questioned by His mother He tells them that He had to get involved with His father's business (paraphrased)!... We see that from early on He had knowledge of Who He Is! When presenting Himself to John the Baptist, John the Baptist attempts to forgo the ritual of baptism stating that it should be him who is baptized by Jesus. Jesus responds: ...'Leave it like this for the time being; it is fitting that we should , in this way, do all that uprightness demands... (Matthew 3:15) He came to fulfill God's Promise! Now, He did divest Himself of His authority (Philippians 2:6-8) but He never stopped being God (John 10:17)! In John 16:30 His disciples attest to Jesus knowledge: "you know everything!" It is not that Jesus did not know or had a need of others to inform Him... He led a simple life with the disciples (Matthew 8:20); upstaging everyone all of the times would not have been much of a simple life! God Bless! Angel |

I wondered about this too...then thought, it is a fact that Jesus is all knowing. As a human, we could not relate to that... we'd have NOTHING to say to establish a relationship.... Perhaps they TOLD Jesus because THEY sought the solace of HIS words for them... or to assure Him that they had respectfully buried John's body. One day, we can ask ourselves:-) |
