1 | concerning the death of John the Baptist | Matt 14:12 | JCrichton | 125987
Hi, Leslie N! There are many Biblical passages that seem to confound our understanding... After learning of Lazarus' fate Jesus did not hurry to his side--He waited about for two days before going to see Lazarus. Clearly, Jesus knew that Lazarus would die; yet He allowed it. Your sample passage talks about Jesus' taking off as soon as He heard of John's death--was He afraid of dying?... No! When it was His time He did not put up a fight! We must read the Scripture and look deeper than the textual language. We must allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten us with His Power! Jesus mission was not as that of the "crossing over" guy on the SciFi channel! When the disciples were overly concern about the end of times and Jesus did not offer an answer, did Jesus not truly know when the end is? Jesus, as the Lamb of God, did not come to reveal all knowledge, nor to fortell future events for the sake of entertainment. But you judge for yourself if He knew all or not: Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; because of this we believe that you came from God.' (John 16:30--see also Mark 2:6-8) Jesus' disciples were alert to the God's teachings and could see with greater clarity than the religious elite the things that pertained to Christ and to the Father. We too must allow God's Wisdom to shine on us! If we limit the Scripture to our finite knowledge and understanding the Truth may never set us free! God Bless! Angel |

what I was trying to point out was Jesus Christ not knowing John had died. does not these Phi_2:5-11 Heb_2:6-9 mean Jesus Christ (while upon the earth) had some limitations Joh_14:28 Heb_6:13 and we have to recognise those limitations 1Jo_4:1-3 2Jo_1:7 those limitations being from His Humanity (Flesh) Rom_1:3-4 even though His divine nature 1Ti_3:16, was then proclaimed Mat_3:17 Mat_17:5 Mar_9:7 2Pe_1:17 Mat_1:18 Mat_1:20 Luk_1:35 Mat_16:16 Joh_11:27 Luk_4:41 and is now, affirmed and known by those knowing and seeing Joh_20:31 Col_2:8-9 concerning Lazarus Joh_11:41 I mostly rely upon the Bible and no other works, I know where the Bible comes from, the other works I don't. |

3 | concerning the death of John the Baptist | Matt 14:12 | JCrichton | 126189
Hi, Leslie N! I understand what you mean... My position is that there were no limitations to Him only to the office He occupied: As the Lamb of God, Jesus did not come to reveal all Truth (John 16:12-15). As an example: Paul reveals that Jesus was the rock that gave life to the people of Israel (1 Corinthians 10:4)--we do not see that revelation given to the people of Israel until Paul addresses the Corinthians with that argument! It was not that Jesus did not exists until the incarnation of the Word; rather it is that Yahweh, the Father, dealt directly with the people of Israel--revealing only reflections of Christ. At the age of twelve Jesus is found at the Temple teaching the teachers! When questioned by His mother He tells them that He had to get involved with His father's business (paraphrased)!... We see that from early on He had knowledge of Who He Is! When presenting Himself to John the Baptist, John the Baptist attempts to forgo the ritual of baptism stating that it should be him who is baptized by Jesus. Jesus responds: ...'Leave it like this for the time being; it is fitting that we should , in this way, do all that uprightness demands... (Matthew 3:15) He came to fulfill God's Promise! Now, He did divest Himself of His authority (Philippians 2:6-8) but He never stopped being God (John 10:17)! In John 16:30 His disciples attest to Jesus knowledge: "you know everything!" It is not that Jesus did not know or had a need of others to inform Him... He led a simple life with the disciples (Matthew 8:20); upstaging everyone all of the times would not have been much of a simple life! God Bless! Angel |

I wondered about this too...then thought, it is a fact that Jesus is all knowing. As a human, we could not relate to that... we'd have NOTHING to say to establish a relationship.... Perhaps they TOLD Jesus because THEY sought the solace of HIS words for them... or to assure Him that they had respectfully buried John's body. One day, we can ask ourselves:-) |
