In 1 Cor 2:10-12, notice the repeated use of the plural pronouns: "us" and "we". God has revealed them to "us" (plural), not "me" (singular). That we might know the things...given to us. Again it is "we" and "us", not "I" and "me". |

I know that the Truth is given by the Holy Spirit to those (plural) who God is calling, the Truth is what is singular not plural. I don't suggest that I have exclusivity to the Truth, but certainly you don't suggest that everyone who say's Lord, Lord has the Truth. Eph 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. I'll tell you what is plural and not singular in 1 John 2:27. '"You have no need for anyone to teach you." Both "you's" are plural and refer to the believing community as a whole; there is no ground here for a hyper-individualistic understanding of the Gospel wherein the views of other believers and the gathering of believers together are considered unimportant' (Jewish New Testament Commentary, David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., 1992). I didn't say that everyone who says Lord, Lord has the Truth. What the quote says about 1 John 2:27 is: 'Both "you's" are plural and refer to the believing community as a whole...' They refer to the BELIEVING COMMUNITY as a whole. |
