1 | calling all sinners | Matt 13:11 | Overcoming | 160796 | ||
What a thought provoking question, I guess everone agrees The Truth must be revealed before ANYONE can understand it. How and to whom is it revealed seems to be the question. 1. Is it not but by the Holy Spirit that the Truth is comprehended. 1 Cor 2:10-12,10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. NKJV 2. Who does God give the Holy Spirit to? Acts 5:32 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him." NKJV |

In 1 Cor 2:10-12, notice the repeated use of the plural pronouns: "us" and "we". God has revealed them to "us" (plural), not "me" (singular). That we might know the things...given to us. Again it is "we" and "us", not "I" and "me". |

I know that the Truth is given by the Holy Spirit to those (plural) who God is calling, the Truth is what is singular not plural. I don't suggest that I have exclusivity to the Truth, but certainly you don't suggest that everyone who say's Lord, Lord has the Truth. Eph 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. I'll tell you what is plural and not singular in 1 John 2:27. '"You have no need for anyone to teach you." Both "you's" are plural and refer to the believing community as a whole; there is no ground here for a hyper-individualistic understanding of the Gospel wherein the views of other believers and the gathering of believers together are considered unimportant' (Jewish New Testament Commentary, David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., 1992). I didn't say that everyone who says Lord, Lord has the Truth. What the quote says about 1 John 2:27 is: 'Both "you's" are plural and refer to the believing community as a whole...' They refer to the BELIEVING COMMUNITY as a whole. |
