1 | Is saying you are a god unforgiveable? | Matt 12:32 | holyliving@sbcglobal.net | 169890 | ||
I believe the teaching we are receiving from television is somewhat correct, but it goes to context. Basically, if you read John, you will find many references that come close to saying that we participate in being God. John 12:36 While you have the Light, believe in the Light [have faith in it, hold to it, rely on it], that you may become sons of the Light and be filled with Light. Jesus said these things, and then He went away and hid Himself from them [was lost to their view]. So it seems that we participate in being God, because God is love, and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts. We are sons of the light, and therefore we must be Light, because light cannot be darkness. I would prefer to think of myself as a son of God as Romans 8:14 says: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. This leaves little questions for debate. We must all be careful not to assume an identity of the deity soley reserved for referring to the Almighty, however, we are indeed brothers of Jesus Christ, and as a Christian, that should be good enough for us! Having said all that, we must remember that Jesus Himself said "these things I do, you shall do, and even greater things than this." Hallelujah!!! God bless us one and all! |

Dear holyliving I fear you’re treading on thin ice. To say that John 12:36 somehow says that we “participate in being God” is quite wrong. To say that we become “sons of God” does not mean that we “participate in being God”. We are adopted as sons and daughters of God, but that by no means puts us on an equal level with God. God may dwell in us but this does not mean that we “participate in being God”. Understand that this is not a personal attack. I’m just trying to let you know that you’re on shaky ground. In Christian Love, Ocelot |
