1 | kingdom of heaven suffers violence | Matt 11:12 | Scribe | 45171
I have been told by smarter men than I that this verse means to lay hold on the Kingdom of heaven by ardent zeal and I have heard it said that it means that saints will suffer persecution unto death by men of wickedness. What do you think it means?

See Matthew 11:25! "At that time Jesus began to say, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth (and I acknowledge openly and joyfully to Your honor), that You have hidden these things from the wise and clever and learned, and revealed them to babies (to the childish, untaught, and unskilled)." Greetings Scribe! I hope this Scripture encourages you to rely upon the Holy Spirit to guide as you study His Word! (And yes, lots of times He does use the wisdom and discernment of "smarter men!") Frankly, I think the cross reference or related verse in Luke 16:15-17 gives some insight. "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail." I believe that the reference to the "kingdom of God" is FUTURE - it is the promised reconcilation between God and Man; a return to that intimate love relationship God enjoyed with the First Adam in the Garden. And ever since Cain and Abel, man has sought to regain God's favor. (Yet through Scripture, God very clearly presents instructions of what is pleasing and acceptable to Him!) In the context of the passage notice that Jesus criticizes the Jews for their lack of belief. They were the "keepers" of the Law, the promises and the prophets and what did they do with them? Most ignored God's Word and sought to please God by THEIR ways rather than God's. In v 26 Jesus says, "Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight." The WAY that Jesus is making reference to is Himself. And those that discover the Way will be like the "infants" in the previous verse! (Those that fully depend upon God) Continuing on in this passage, it seems that the Lord is saying although men sought to know God through their own efforts, they cannot know Him unless He reveals Himself in HIS WAY! These are just MY thoughts on this verse, and they are quite divergent from what you have proposed in your question! Please know that I don't pretend to be a "smarter man" than you either!
